چکیده

Accurate disturbance models are necessary to predict the e!ects of vibrations on the performance of precision space-based telescopes, such as the Space Interferometry Mission (SIM). There are many possible disturbance sources on such spacecraft, but mechanical jitter from the reaction wheel assembly (RWA) is anticipated to be the largest. A method has been developed and implemented in the form of a MATLAB toolbox to extract parameters for an empirical disturbance model from RWA micro-vibration data. The disturbance model is based on one that was used to predict the vibration behaviour of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) wheels and assumes that RWA disturbances consist of discrete harmonics of the wheel speed with amplitudes proportional to the wheel speed squared. The MATLAB toolbox allows the extension of this empirical disturbance model for application to any reaction wheel given steady state vibration data. The toolbox functions are useful for analyzing RWA vibration data, and the model provides a good estimate of the disturbances over most wheel speeds. However, it is shown that the disturbances are under-predicted by a model of this form over some wheel speed ranges. The poor correlation is due to the fact that the empirical model does not account for disturbance ampli"cations caused by interactions between the harmonics and the structural modes of the wheel. Experimental data from an ITHACO Space Systems E-type reaction wheel are used to illustrate the model development and validation process. ( 2002 Academic Press

Validation and application of empirical shear wave velocity models based on standard penetration test

Shear wave velocity is a basic engineering tool required to define dynamic properties of soils. In many instances it may be preferable to determine Vs indirectly by common in-situ tests, such as the Standard Penetration Test. Many empirical correlations based on the Standard Penetration Test are broadly classified as regression techniques. However, no rigorous procedure has been published for c...

Adaptive Control of a Spin-Stabilized Spacecraft Using two Reaction Wheels and a 1DoF Gimbaled-Thruster

In impulsive orbital maneuvers, a large disturbance torque is generated by the thrust vector misalignment from the center of mass (C.M). The purpose of this paper is to reject the mentioned disturbance and stabilize the spacecraft attitude, based on the combination of a one degree of freedom (1DoF) gimbaled-thruster, two reaction wheels (RWs) and spin-stabilization. In this paper, the disturban...

Development of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) calibration model for estimation of oil content in a worldwide safflower germplasm collection

The development of NIRS calibration model as a rapid, precise, robust, and cost-effective method to estimate oil content in ground seeds of worldwide safflower germplasm collection grown under different agro-climatic conditions was the key objective of this research project. The oil content was measured by accelerated solvent extraction method in a total of 328 samples collected across 2004 (16...

Daily Pan Evaporation Modelling With ANFIS and NNARX

Evaporation, as a major component of the hydrologic cycle, plays a key role in water resources development and management in arid and semi-arid climatic regions. Although there are empirical formulas available, their performances are not all satisfactory due to the complicated nature of the evaporation process and the data availability. This paper explores evaporation estimation methods based o...

Development of a Finite Element Methodology for Flexible Track Models in Railway Dynamics Applications

The dynamic analysis of railway vehicles involves the construction of three independent models: the vehicle model; the track model; and the wheel-rail contact model. In this work, a multibody formulation with Cartesian coordinates is used to describe the kinematic structure of the rigid bodies and joints that constitute the vehicle model. A methodology is also proposed in order to create detail...
